Socioemotional Predictors of Adolescent Depression

STUDY PURPOSE

In collaboration with the Auerbach Lab at Columbia, we are doing this study to learn more about emotion and social behavior in adolescents. Participants may earn up to $494 for the general study and can opt-in to an MRI scan to earn up to an additional $185. In total you may earn up to $679. Each MRI will be screened for major issues by a clinical neuroradiologist.

WHAT DOES THE STUDY INVOLVE?

  • Complete 4 assessments over the course of the study, some of which involve the use of EEG, eye-tracking, and heart rate measurement tools. You can also opt-in to one additional visit to Columbia for an MRI scan.

  • Install a research app to passively collect data about smartphone use.

  • Complete periodic surveys sent through push notifications to one's phone. 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?

  • Adolescents ages 13-18

  • English speaking

  • Right handed

  • Android phone or iOS phone (iPhone 7 or newer)

  • history of depression OR no history of psychiatric concerns

Stress and Brain-based Factors in Adolescent Suicide Risk

STUDY PURPOSE

In collaboration with the Auerbach Lab at Columbia, we are doing this study to learn more about stress, emotions, and brain functioning in adolescents experiencing suicidal thoughts or behaviors. Participants will complete a clinical assessment and an MRI scan. In total you may earn up to $784. Each MRI will be screened for major issues by a clinical neuroradiologist.

WHAT DOES THE STUDY INVOLVE?

  • Baseline clinical assessment and questionnaires

  • One MRI scan

  • Install a research app to passively collect data about smartphone use.

  • Complete periodic surveys sent through push notifications to one's phone. 

  • Five brief check-in phone calls over the next one year

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?

  • Adolescents ages 13-17

  • English speaking (parents can be English or Spanish speaking)

  • Android phone or iOS phone (iPhone 7 or newer)

  • No history of psychiatric concerns

MRI & Therapy Study for Pediatric OCD

STUDY PURPOSE

In collaboration with the Marsh Lab at Columbia, we are doing this study to understand the way the brain functions for youth with OCD by assessing brain changes following treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). You and your child will receive compensation of up to $300 for participating in the study. Children diagnosed with OCD will be offered CBT free of charge. Each MRI will be screened for major issues by a clinical neuroradiologist.

WHAT DOES THE STUDY INVOLVE?

  • A thorough diagnostic evaluation

  • For children diagnosed with CBT - 12 sessions of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with exposure and response prevention

  • MRI scans before and after CBT treatment

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?

  • Between 6 and 14 years old

  • Show symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

  • Not be taking any current psychiatric medications or participating in psychotherapy
